How Australia GST works
Australia charges a flat 10% Goods and Services Tax (GST) on most goods and services. Some supplies are GST-free (e.g. basic food, exports, some health and education).
To add GST: multiply net by 1.10. Example: A$100 → A$10 GST → A$110 incl. To remove GST: divide by 1.10. The GST component of an inclusive price is also Gross × (1/11).
ABN-registered businesses that are GST-registered must report GST on Business Activity Statements. Use this calculator to verify amounts before creating a tax invoice with InvoBuzz.
Reverse charge & inclusive prices
Australia generally does not use EU-style reverse charge, but reverse charge can apply to certain imported services and digital supplies. Confirm with the ATO for your situation.
Invoice requirements
An Australian tax invoice typically needs: supplier identity and ABN, invoice date, description, GST amount (or a statement that the total includes GST), and the extent to which each supply is taxable.
