How France TVA works
France applies Taxe sur la Valeur Ajoutée (TVA) at a standard rate of 20%. Intermediate (10%) and reduced (5.5%) rates apply to hospitality, transport, books, and other specified categories. A special 2.1% rate exists for certain press products.
To add 20% TVA: multiply net by 1.20. Example: €200 net → €40 TVA → €240 TTC (toutes taxes comprises). To extract TVA from a TTC price: divide by 1.20.
French invoices must distinguish HT (hors taxes / exclusive) from TTC (inclusive) and show the TVA amount and rate. This calculator helps freelancers, auto-entrepreneurs, and companies verify amounts before issuing a compliant invoice.
Reverse charge & inclusive prices
Autoliquidation de TVA (reverse charge) applies in specific B2B EU cross-border scenarios. Use remove-VAT mode when starting from a TTC figure.
Invoice requirements
A French TVA invoice should include: identity of seller and buyer, SIRET/SIREN where applicable, invoice number and date, HT amounts, TVA rates and amounts, and TTC total.
