How Netherlands BTW works
How to use this BTW calculator Netherlands
- 1
Enter your net (excl. BTW) amount
Type the price before BTW — for example €500 for a freelance project.
- 2
Confirm the 21% rate
The calculator defaults to 21% standard BTW. Change to 9% for reduced-rate supplies if needed.
- 3
Read the BTW and gross total
At 21%: €500 net → €105 BTW → €605 gross. Formula: BTW = Net × 0.21.
- 4
Remove BTW from an inclusive price
Switch to remove-BTW mode and enter a gross price. Net = Gross ÷ 1.21.
- 5
Create your Dutch invoice
Use our free Netherlands invoice generator to issue a factuur with BTW shown correctly.
Reverse charge & inclusive prices
Verlegging van BTW (reverse charge) can apply in construction and EU B2B scenarios. Check Belastingdienst guidance for your supply type.
Invoice requirements
A Dutch BTW invoice should include: names and addresses, VAT identification number when required, invoice number and date, description, amounts excl./incl. BTW, and the BTW rate.
