GST in India
India uses a Goods and Services Tax (GST) system. Standard GST rate is 18% for most services. Intra-state supplies split into CGST (9%) + SGST (9%). Inter-state supplies use IGST (18%).
What a legal invoice must include in India
A GST invoice must include: your GSTIN, invoice number, date, place of supply, HSN/SAC code, taxable value, applicable GST rate (CGST + SGST or IGST), and total amount.
India's GST system has been in effect since 2017. Businesses with turnover above ₹20 lakh must register for GST. Freelancers and exporters use GST invoices regularly.
